Week of January 31

 We made it through the week of report cards, snow, and everything else. We are now in the 3rd quarter and things are about to get real". We are getting down to the wire. We are still covering reading skills but I will be covering them along with the novels we are reading. We will begin James and the Giant Peach as a class and they are divided into reading groups of 5-6 with different books based on their reading level. You will also noticed they may be bringing some additional assignments home, either in math or reading. Please follow up with them because if it is reading, they need to be reading from their book daily. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Also, we are in Chapter 10 in math on Fractions. I am attaching the home newsletter so that you can see the skills attached. I intend on testing them on Tuesday, February 8th. We will keep forging through to Chapter 11, more fractions. This is why I have encouraged them to know their multiplication facts, because it is essential when working with fractions. I also have vocabulary they need to be studying that will be included with their test on Tuesday. This vocabulary is in their math notebook and it will be posted on Google Classroom.

Also, I am trying to post the Student Pathway daily in Google Classroom. This helps if your little hero is absent. I try to make it as similar to what we're studying or doing in class as possible. Please if they are absent or need a refresher, refer to the pathway in Google Classroom.

Last but surely not least is we will be able to pass out Valentine's in the classroom this year. I am attaching the roster below. As you will see, below the roster is the math family home newsletter and pictures from our Edible Rocks activities as well as our book clubs. Enjoy!!

Welcome back from Winter Holiday Break

Good morning,

I hope you all relaxed and enjoyed your family time this break. We have a math test on addition and subtraction this Wednesday (the 5th). We will begin moving to Chapter 9 in math, which is the 2nd book. So, we will be migrating the 1st volume home. Reading is a compilation of everything we've already studied in addition to author's purpose, text, structures, and inquiry. I will try to post some activities or sheets with examples. In social studies, we will review the different types of maps and then move into soil and rocks in science.

Below the math chapter 8 study guide are pictures from our holiday shenanigans. Enjoy!! We also have pictures of our presenter, Christian Turner (Jackson's brother) at the bottom of the blog. He came in and talked to our class about college, strengths, struggles, and other opportunities. He is majoring in engineering at The Citadel and will be graduating this spring. The kids actually enjoyed him and had some enlightening questions. This ties in well with AVID. Thank you Christian!!!
